If you're in Kosciusko County, Indiana, and can't afford to buy a home, you're in luck.
The county's Economic Development Corporation has launched the Hoosier Homes program, which offers up to 6% assistance for down payment and closing costs, plus access to home loans with competitive interest rates, the Journal Gazette reports.
The initiative was born out of a housing needs study that found Kosciusko County needs nearly twice as many housing units as the market is producing, per a KEDCO press release.
"This study was a critical part of understanding what our communities need in order to support the housing needs of our workforce," says KEDCO CEO Stephanie Overbey.
Under the program, homebuyers will receive assistance through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, which also offers individual development accounts for low-to-moderate income people.
"We want people to have the tools they need to be confident and successful in purchasing a home and reaching their financial goals," says Kosciusko County Commissioner Cary Groninger.
